Here’s Ortofficina’s new living room with the gazebo given by our BikeKitchen (thanks!). How cool would be a tea room open during our meeting days, with the mint leaves from our garden! We’ve held one tearoom event during the spring fest, it was such a splendid day in which we didn’t have enough hands to hold a camera!

Cosa succede in questi giorni all’Ortofficina?

Vieni a trovarci.

What’s happening at the moment at Ortofficina?

We are building a new container. The containers are build with a lasagna gardening technique, using layers of isolation from the original soil and nutrition with compost and leafage. Find wood planks long enough, cut them to measure, layer sand, cardboard, stones, paper, fresh compost, leafage, and the last layer would be seasoned compost mixed with soil with a 1/3 proportion.

We have an ant infestation. Do you have an organic cure ready to use? Come find us.

cipolla

The onions grew up in the cellar during the winter, so we planted them back into the soil in February. At the top of the antenna you can see the white ball full of seeds: wait for the flower to open and to dry and pick dry seeds. Always write the name, the origin and the date on seed packs. You can see some onions without the antenna (it’s not a technical term, who knows what it’s called?) The flower is cut to make the bulb grow underground.

Trova le piante: Non sappiamo certe piante e li lasciamo crescere. Vedi qualcosa che conosci? Scrivi un commento.

Nella cassa1 vedi menta, insalata, zucchino rampicante, melanzane, aglio, cipolla e finocchio.

Spot the plants: We don’t know all the plants but let them grow anyway. You see a plant you know? Write it in the comments.

In the 1st container you can see mint, salad, winter squash, eggplants, garlic, onion and fennel.
